Crazy Week- Day 4

Just as I was thinking my life was slowing down, my husband tells me Thursday night that Friday night we aren't just going to dinner, but we are getting away to Denver and staying on the 16th St Mall. How glorious! I am excited, but then completely overwhelmed at all I have to do before I go. Friday was my sisters' (yes plural) birthdays and they so graciously agreed to watch the kids overnight for us. So I made them a cake, gave them money for pizza and a movie, and then tried to leave them as detailed instructions as possible for my kids. It's not that my kids are high maintenance, it's just that Dean especially is in a phase/age where life must be VERY predictable or he just can't handle it. I'm slowly trying to break him of that, but these things do take time. Anyway, I just figured it would be easier for them if they knew at least generally what he would expect. Also the next day my mother-in-law took over the "second-shift" so I wanted to make sure everything was prepared and easy for her to find. Who knew that leaving for just 18 hours or so could require such preparations?

I finally got out of the house around 5 pm (about an hour late according to my husband's expectations, but oh well!) and got to Kyle's work around 6:15. We went downtown and checked in at the Courtyard Marriott. That may not seem like the greatest of getaway hotels, but a). we had a rewards coupon so it was free! and b). the one on 16th St is actually really cool and nice. By the time we were settled we both were starving (we're both used to eating with toddlers at 5:30!) so we walked down to McCormicks and had a FABULOUS dinner. It amazes me how when you go to a nicer restaurant you get better food in correct portion sizes and yet pay more. And yet you could go to an all-you-can-eat buffet and gorge yourself for under $10. Anyway, it was worth the price to have a delicious meal and walk away feeling content but not stuffed. We then walked back to the hotel (5 or 6 blocks) and started the "new" Chronicles of Narnia movie. Of course, being the old married couple/parents that we are we turned it off at 10:30 and went to bed! Lol!  How much changes in just a few years!  The next morning we slept in ( a true gift from God if you're a parent) and ate breakfast at like 11 am!

It was nice to get away for a few hours and remember what it's like to be a couple without worrying about children and for me just to feel like a human. I came home feeling completely refreshed and relaxed. What a blessing from my husband and my family!
