Jackson Douglas Fisk

For those of you who didn't follow the story on Facebook. Here's how the beautiful birth of our youngest son came about.

Yesterday I went in for my routine 39 wk check-up and they found baby's heartrate to be unusually low and did not respond to any of the normal stimuli. Also baby had not grown any in over a week. After much discussion and a few tests, I was admitted directly to the hospital for an overnight induction. Because my cervix really hadn't changed in last two weeks, they used some cervical ripening agents overnight that made me contract on a regular basis, but were more crampy then painful. In other words I was able to get some sleep and awoke this am while not feeling great I was more rested then I had been starting my other two labors. Though my cervix had changed some, I still really wasn't in labor so they started Pitocin at 6:30. Thanks to modern technology and a fabulous husband I was able to distract myself from the discomfort and pain for 3 hours. I gave random labor updates on Facebook, paid bills, surfed blogs and listened as my husband read to me. Sometime around 9:30 or 9:45 am the intensity and frequency of my contractions racheted up several levels even though my medication drip and not been increased in over an hour. In came all the dusty techniques I'd learned in my Bradley class and so for the next hour or so I breathed and moaned through every contraction. At 10:30 my doctor still hadn't gotten out of surgery so I had my nurse check me and I was 3/70/ -2. Argh! At this point, the pain was causing me to shake so I opted for the epidural. It probably wasn't my smoothest epidural placement, but once it was in it worked by far the best of any I've had. So then from 11:30ish to 12:35ish I rested and listened to my husband read to me somemore of his very funny book. About 12:35, he got to a very funny part of the book and I laughed so hard I broke my water. Fortunately about 2 min later my Dr walked in and checked me and I was ready to deliver! I pushed one medium sized push and my body did the rest. Jackson Douglas was born at 12:46 pm. He's 7 lbs, 21 in long, and very much a gangly little guy. While he has his own distinct look, he probably caters to my side of the family more, minus his HUGE crop of dark brown hair!! So cute. Here are a few quick pics!
